First launch
Copy Dolly to Applications first. When you grant Accessibility access, Dolly immediately arranges resizable windows from all apps on every display. Control + Option + Escape restores their original positions and stops management.
01
Open the DMG and drag Dolly into your Applications folder.
02
Launch it from Applications and look for the three-column icon in the menu bar. Dolly has no Dock icon.
03
Until access is granted, the menu reads “Needs Accessibility access.” Grant it in System Settings when you are ready; Dolly starts automatically.
To try Dolly on a few apps first, use Open Configuration File in its menu before granting access. Set manageOnlyBundleIDs to those apps’ bundle identifiers and save. The bundled Help guide explains the configuration.
A calm workspace
Turn off another window manager before starting Dolly. It remembers original positions so Restore Every Window and Stop can return you to an ordinary desktop.
Windows live side by side rather than shrinking to fit a fixed grid. Press Control + Option + Left or Right to focus the next window in that direction.
Control Option Escape restores every managed window to its original position and stops Dolly.
Stop pauses management and keeps windows in their current layout. Quit Dolly restores original positions with the default configuration, then exits.
The menu includes Dolly Help, and the bundled guide covers controls and configuration in more detail.
This release
The current release is a universal Mac build with an app icon and a bundled Help guide. Settings are edited in a JSON file through Open Configuration File in the menu.
Uninstall
Quit Dolly from the menu, then move it from Applications to the Trash. You can remove its Accessibility entry in System Settings. To remove saved settings and layouts too, delete the Dolly folders in your user Library’s Application Support and Logs folders.
Preview limitations
Four-finger trackpad swipes and switching macOS Spaces are not yet tested on hardware. Use the keyboard controls for this preview.
Manual updates
This preview does not check for or install updates automatically. Return to this page for a newer release, quit Dolly, replace Dolly in Applications, then open it again. Your settings and saved layout stay on your Mac.
